REVEAL // Viceroy Inspired Balcony

patio reveal coverDun dun dun dunnnn!  I’m proud (and a lil anxious) to reveal the first “finished” space in our new apartment.  Well, technically it’s not even in our apartment, its right outside of our apartment: Our Balcony!  That’s right, a whole bunch out outdoor decor inspiration right in time for summer to be just about over.  Excellent planning on my behalf…

Anyway, if you have been following along with my decorating adventures, you’ll remember my plan for a Viceroy inspired patio; and I must say, it turned out pretty close to the original plan!  Just a refresher, here is what our balcony looked like the day I signed our lease…balcony-view-4-764x1024

And this is what it looks like today…

Patio Reveal 3The first thing I did was lay down old-schoool green outdoor carpet, which cost me about $23.  I had no interest in a tiny bistro table with uncomfortable chairs that never get used.  Instead I went with two, comfy, facing love-seats and other pieces that have multi purposes.  Ever square inch of this tiny space is utilized.

Remember the palm print fabric I ordered?  I had my love seat cushions upholstered in it, and if I could, I’d drape it around the entire thing.  I love it large.

A pair of vintage, equestrian ashtrays can double as cocktail tables.

Rest your feet on a black and white cabana striped ottoman, throw a tray on it to hold food, or it can easily provide an extra seat.Patio Reveal 5 Patio Reveal 9

The entire ceiling is canopied in lanterns that hold battery operated faux candles.  They are on timers, and all light up starting at dusk.

I water my aloe plants with a vintage, brass pitcher.  They have’t died yet!Patio Reveal 13

The love-seat cushions and pillows coordinate, but aren’t identical.  I love symmetry, but not matchey matchey.Patio Reveal 4

  2. Nailed it! It looks sooo good my dear, and is so much more functional than the bistro table. I imagine you guys are out there all the time – especially at cocktail hour. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your design, I am soon moving from a home of 47 years to an apartment that has 8″x14″ space. I am going with wicker sofa’s also. Maybe a Moroccan theme or decorate with things from India as I already have that theme in my family room at home.

  18. I was thinking of using hanging lanterns to decorate my long front porch and this will help me show my vision to my hubby! I’m tired of overused , messy ferns!
PS I have wallpaper similar to your beloved palm leaves in my entryway!
