Rome was the first city we visited on our Italian Getaway, three city tour. In addition to eating, drinking, and shopping; we also did lots of sightseeing. We arrived to our hotel before check-in time, but we were able to check our bags and explore the city. We walked around ancient ruins and saw the Colosseum right way; then after we were able to check in and freshen up, we had a relaxing dinner. The next couple of days we did what I like to do most: visit art museums, look at beautiful architecture, and shop. I cant help myself, I just appreciate beautiful things. And I took lots of pics on my iPhone to document all of those beautiful things. The last day we visited the Vatican and went inside of the Sistine Chapel, which was rather intense. The structure is massive, old, and ornate, with few materials other than marble and stone. In my opinion, the exterior could use a few potted topiaries, or greenery of any kind. The monochromatic materials hardly vary in texture, which lends itself to feeling slightly like a fancy prison. But what do I know? I’m not really experienced in landscaping ancient religious landmarks.
Stay tuned….the next city up is Florence!
