Halloween is my favorite holiday to celebrate, party, and decorate for. I was absolutely THRILLED when my mantel from a few years ago was published in this year’s Better Homes and Gardens special Halloween issue.
Seeing that issue on news stands got me even more excited to start decorating for October 31st than I already was. After last year’s Halloween decor defeat, I vowed to create something brand new this year. I don’t think I can outdo my haunted mantel design, so I decided on a creepy tablescape in my dining room.
This year has brought much debate over whether a formal dining room is necessary or a waste of space and money. They aren’t vital for everyone’s lifestyles, but for me – it’s my favorite room. I absolutely love to entertain in my home and formal sit down dinners at my beloved dining room table are the most special.I decided on a muted color palate (shocking!) of black, white, grey, silver, and a bit of green. Sort of a spooky graveyard inspired situation. I hope you like as much as I do. People often tell me they want to host parties, but entertaining is too stressful and they are worried their home isn’t “done” enough to have people over. I say, my home will NEVER be “done” and I won’t wait to have my loved ones over. Decor as elaborate as mine isn’t necessary for your guests to have a good time. The key to a creating fun evening in is plenty of booze, great friends, booze, yummy food, booze, killer music, and booze. Mix those simple ingredients together and you will have yourself a fabulous time had by all.
Works. Every. Damn. Time.
Even if you don’t have a dining room table that seats 12, you can certainly create a festive little libation station to get the party started.
Dim the lights, light a ton of candles, and you are ready to rock. Just make sure to keep your hair away from open flames. That can be a quick buzz kill. Just sayin.
This past Friday I had my best gals over to break in my tablescape with a special “Ghouls Night In” dinner party. We channeled our inner witches in legit AHS Coven fashion.
We didn’t have any fun at all. 😉
A special thank you to my beautiful witch Katie who had to miss the night to watch over her own Coven, Katie’s Pizza and Pasta, but provided us with the most AMAZING food. She was greatly missed, but I carb loaded in her honor. The current Fall menu simply can not be denied. I mean, bikini season is officially over after all…
All pictures were taken by my talented and hilarious friend, witch, vintage barware aficionado, and fellow November 10 born date sharer – Hilary Clements. Thank you so much for your time. You gots mad skills gurl.
Now, all I need to do is nail down my costume for my next shindig. Just a crazy house party for every single person I’ve ever met on Saturday October 31 at Casa de Daredevil. No biggie.
Holy fuck I have a lot to do this week.
Happy Monday y’all!
